This unit does the same job as the more expensive stroke gauges, except that it uses a set of 0-6" dial calipers (not included) instead of a long range dial indicator. Just set it up on the crankshaft main journals, zero the calipers at the top of the rod journal, then rotate the crank to the bottom of the stroke and take your reading to .001". You can even use this tool on assembled short blocks by zeroing the calipers on the piston at TDC, then measuring down to BDC. Our Sportsman Crankshaft Stroke Checker is designed to work with any dial calipers.
